TROY - Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said life sciences, and health care are both big business in Oakland County and growing rapidly. Patterson was a keynote speaker at the MichBio Expo in Novi. Patterson also talked about the importance of bailing out the Detroit Three automakers, and other changes afoot in the second most populous county in Michigan.

ANN ARBOR - Deadlines to enter two additional business-plan competitions hosted by groups other than Great Lakes Entrepreneur’s Quest loom on Nov. 21, says GLEQ Executive Director Diane Durance. Both the Society of Automotive Engineers and the University of Michigan are hosting contests in December.
ANN ARBOR - Rick Snyder, one of the state’s most successful venture capitalists and entrepreneurs, said clean tech cars and trucks, lead by plug-and-run electric vehicles, could make Michigan one of the world’s top alternative energy-production regions in the years ahead. He also said the state needs to change its current tax policies to make this dream happen.

TROY - Patrick Anderson of the Anderson Economic Group in East Lansing talks about the Fourth Annual Technology Industry Report: Driving Southeast Michigan Forward, which shows the average wage for workers in the Life Sciences sector grew 4.4 percent to more than $97,000. Also growing at a heady rate was Life Sciences jobs, plus technology jobs in general in Southeast Michigan.
